Why it matters

Communities across the U.S. are grappling with growing polarization, hate-driven violence, and extremist recruitment. RESTORE builds a civil society–based prevention infrastructure that equips professionals—those closest to communities—with the confidence and tools to act early, intervene effectively, and prevent harm.

About RESTORE

RESTORE is the flagship initiative of Violence Prevention Network USA (VPN USA). Launched in Pittsburgh in 2023, it brings over two decades of proven practice from Germany—where VPN helped more than 6,000 individuals disengage from extremist groups—to the U.S. context.

Many efforts focus on broad awareness-raising around the dynamics of radicalization to violence and law enforcement steps in when there is the threat of imminent harm. But there is a lack of action when “only” early warning signs are apparent. RESTORE fills this critical “middle space”. It provides civil society–led, evidence-based tools and training for professionals to intervene with vulnerable individuals early—before violence occurs – and support the strengthening of protective factors, helping individuals vulnerable to violent ideologies to build resilience.

Is this training for you?

> Do you feel called to help prevent radicalization to violence in your community or professional context?
> Do you work with people who may be immersed in or exploring ideologies that justify hate and violence—under the guise of protecting self, family, community, or nation?

If so, this training is designed for you.

What you will gain

  • Clarity on the drivers of radicalization and why extremist narratives appeal to people.
  • An overview of prevalent extremist groups in the region and current online threats.
